Sudan is one of the least-reached, poorest, most conflicted nations in the world. And it will soon have a new FEBC radio station.
FEBC’s new FM station will offer the true peace of God in a deeply broken nation. Our broadcasts will discuss forgiveness, and reconciliation, lifting the worth and dignity of all people caught up in dehumanising wars and authoritarian regimes. Muslim listeners will hear Christian views from an actual Christian, almost certainly for the first time.
In 2011 after a long civil war, Sudan was divided into two countries: Sudan and South Sudan. Basically, Sudan is Muslim and South Sudan is Christian. Our new station is in the Muslim north. With a population of 50 million, and a terrible civil war raging on, approximately 10% of Sudan are displaced, and around 30 million are in need of humanitarian aid!
Sudan is home to 201 different language groups. The largest is the Sudanese Arabs with 15 million people. Seven other language groups have more than 1 million people. All are “unreached,” meaning there is no indigenous community of Christians with adequate numbers to evangelise their own people.
Our programmes model the way of Jesus, and will serve listeners with spiritual content and practical humanitarian help. Radio is a cheap and accessible source of information, and millions of hurting Muslim people will be within our broadcast range.
This is an answer to prayer as FEBC International expands across Africa’s Sahel region, the belt-like strip between the south and the Muslim north. Today, the Sahel is considered the world’s epicentre of terrorism (BBC), home to violent extremist groups Boko Haram, Islamic State, and Al-Qaeda who impose strict Islamic Sharia law.
Rather than confronting Islamic beliefs (and risking lives), our broadcasters will appeal to all listeners through stories, testimonies, dramatic scripture reading, community development guidance, and Christian music, all in local languages and familiar customs.
Please pray for our team as it grows and begins this new ministry. The station is expected to be making its first broadcasts in late July or early August 2025.
