Across Ukraine, tens of thousands of young women are now facing life alone. Many have lost husbands and fiancés to the brutal realities of war. Some don’t even know if their loved ones are alive.
It’s estimated that more than 240,000 widows are under the age of 40.
Veronica is one of them. Her husband, a soldier, stopped answering calls eight months ago. His commanders think he’s probably dead, but Veronica clings to a glimmer of hope that he may be a prisoner of war.
“I’ve never been to church, never prayed, never read the Bible”, she said. “But I came to the women’s gathering because I needed someone to talk to.”
That night, surrounded by prayer and support, Veronica accepted Jesus into her heart.
Nadia, just 21, is another young woman carrying deep wounds. A volunteer soldier, she went to cook for the troops but ended up retrieving the bodies of fallen comrades from the battlefield.
With the Embrace team, she broke down in tears.
“It’s hard. There’s no one to talk to. You have to be strong around the men.”
But in that moment, in the safety of fellowship, she cried, hugged the chaplain, and promised to stay in touch. Nadia was given an audio Bible for the military – something to carry into the darkness with her.
These are just two of the hundreds of women who have found hope and healing through FEBC’s Embrace ministry. With your prayers and support, local believers are meeting young women where they are, gently introducing them to Jesus – the only One who can truly heal a broken heart.
