From Islam to Witchcraft.
Mr Mbeue was born into a Muslim family in Mozambique. His parents passed down to him their culture, beliefs and religion as most do. Later they sent him to an Islamic school where he was taught every facet of Islam, and he became a leader in his father’s mosque.
At this time he also became a Sangoma, a witch doctor. Sangomas are respected figures in their communities and they use numerous occult practices to heal and cause great harm for their paying customers. Mr Mbeue was well known for causing the deaths of many people using sorcery and evil spiritual practices!
His children worked for him, and he taught them and others how to practice witchcraft and how to perform various rituals and invoke their ancestors and spirits for healing and protection.
Mr Mbeue had five wives, but only had children with his first wife. He was living a terrible life, failing to educate his children properly, and not taking care of his wives.
The Witch Doctor became a radio listener.
In time Mr Mbeue heard about FEBC’s station in his area. It is Radio Fountain of Truth. He listened and liked the programmes. One day Mr Mbeue decided to visit the offices of Radio Fountain of Truth and ask more about God, salvation from sin and hell, and the new eternal life that is found in Jesus Christ.
The listener became a Christian.
“How does salvation work?” he asked.
The station manager and some of his team spent time with the well-known Sangoma, sharing the Bible and going into more depth than the usual radio programmes can. When he was satisfied, Mr Mbeue asked for 3 things: His own Bible, a new radio, and to follow Jesus! (pictured above)
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:5
The FEBC team visited him at home taking discipleship materials and encouraging him to walk with Jesus daily. He kept listening to Fountain of Truth, and began making important changes in his life. He made new arrangements for 4 of his 5 wives, staying with the one mother of his children. He obviously stopped practicing as a Sangoma, but he needed a new source of income. FEBC provided him with a sewing machine and he set up a small business.
The Christian became a disciple maker.
Today, Mr Mbeue is set free from his witchcraft and sorcery. Not only is he teaching his children to obey and follow Jesus, the offices he previously used to practice and teach witchcraft he now uses to teach people about his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
